Vanessa Hudgens’ Caliwater Is Now Pouring at Pura Vida Miami’s 50+ Cafes

According to a November 3 release posted by Caliwater on BevNET, Hudgens and co-founder Oliver Trevena celebrated the partnership on November 2 at Pura Vida Miami’s new West Hollywood cafe. The release says guests included Brooklyn Beckham, Gregg Sulkin and Hannah Stocking.

“We’ve always believed Caliwater has an opportunity to bring something different to the hydration category, and partnerships like this help us introduce the brand to more people in their everyday lives,” Trevena said in the release.

Caliwater describes itself as prickly pear cactus water with five naturally occurring electrolytes and no artificial sweeteners. The brand says it’s plant-based, vegan, Non-GMO Project Verified, kosher and gluten-free. On its own site, Caliwater sells 12-packs for $30.99.

Our read: cafes are the new sampling table

This is our analysis. Caliwater was already in grocery stores. Putting it in a cafe chain is about getting the can into your hand when you’re already buying a smoothie or a bowl. That’s an easier first try than picking an unfamiliar drink off a crowded shelf. Celebrity drink brands keep testing new doors, like MGK’s ginger ale heading to Whole Foods.

Reality check

A famous co-founder and a star-studded party don’t tell you anything about how a drink tastes or whether it’s worth the price. The release doesn’t say what a can costs at Pura Vida. And “nationwide” here means Pura Vida’s cafes, which are mostly on the coasts.
