How it was found
This is a company announcement posted by FDA on October 30, 2026. The company says the potential contamination was found through routine sampling of a single retail unit. No illnesses have been reported to date.
What the notice says about Salmonella
Per the notice, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people who are infected may have fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the notice says, the infection can reach the bloodstream and cause more severe illness. If you took these capsules and feel sick, call your health care provider.
Our read: a store-brand supplement, two ways to buy it
This is our analysis. This one is easy to miss because it was sold in two places. If you picked it up in a Whole Foods aisle, you might remember. If it arrived in an Amazon box, it’s easy to forget where it came from. Either way, the check is the same: the lot number on the bottom.
Reality check
One lot, one positive retail sample and no reported illnesses. That’s the whole story so far, according to the company. It doesn’t mean every bottle is contaminated, and it doesn’t say anything about ashwagandha in general or other lots. It does mean this lot shouldn’t be in your cabinet.
The close
Capsules sit in a bottle for months.
This bottle shouldn’t. Flip it over and check the lot tonight.
